Understanding the Link Between Toys and Toddler Development

Bookmark and Share

When it comes to toddler development, the toys you have your toddler play with are going to make a difference. When your baby has grown out of his ball and rattles, then it is time to get him some more complicated toys to keep him amused and stimulate his thinking and reasoning skills.

Don't overlook traditional toys for aiding toddler development. A favorite type of traditional toy of mine is a pull along. These have been available for a long time, but have come a long way. They always used to be a duck that made noises as you pulled it along. Those of us who are older may remember, but today, the duck is just the tip of the iceberg. There are now chickens, which have chicks trailing behind them, lions, and even crocodiles.

Another popular traditional toy is a train set. These are perfect for toddlers and are great fun. And while your little one may think they are playing, they are also using their motor skills and refining their motor skills.

Modern toys, such as electronic games are very popular, however they do not encourage children to play together. They also do everything that is needed for the child, which means they don’t need to imagine much. Many young children may spend hours sitting in front of the TV. This activity can also inhibit their imagination and social skills. Instead, it might be a good idea to only allow your child to watch limited amounts of TV each day.

Although every toy encourages learning in different ways, there are toys that are specifically designed for learning. You can use these toys to teach skills, reasoning, and just how to play. The whole experience can be very rewarding.

If you think about it, toys and development aren't really that difficult to understand. Try to choose the ones where your children have to use their imagination to make things come alive and further their toddler development.
