Helpful Hints for Bathing a Difficult Toddler

Bookmark and Share | |

How to get a difficult little one cleanNot many toddlers enjoy getting clean. In fact, most of them would prefer to stay grubby rather than have a bath! Like it or not, toddler bathing is something that you need to do, no matter how much your little one protests!

Bathing your toddler can be very difficult. Some children don’t even like getting wet. This means you may have to trick your child in order to get him or her into the bath!

If you make bath time fun then the chances that your toddler will like it will be greatly improved. There are loads of different toys that your toddler can play with in the bath to take his or her mind off the bath itself!

There are some toys that float that can be pushed around in the tub. You can also purchase special soaps that lather in bright colors rather than plain old white. This will add interest to bath time. Some of the bath soaps look like crayons and can write on the tub or your baby's skin, and then suds up and wash off. With enough of these types of toys in the tub, you may eventually have a tough time getting your toddler out of the water!

There are, however, some important safety considerations when bathing your toddler. You should make sure that the water is the right temperature and isn’t too hot or too cold. Add cold water first then hot water to make sure that the water temperature is just right. You should never leave your toddler alone in the bath, not even if the phone rings. Take everything that you might need into the bathroom so you won’t have to leave.

You also need to be careful that you do not allow your toddler to slip in the bath. There are many products that you can use to hold your little one in place. Spout guards are another thing that you should consider. These prevent your baby from banging his or head on the spout.

When washing your toddler’s hair, you should use a baby shampoo which is gentle. You don’t want it to hurt if it gets into their eyes. This will turn a good bath experience into a nightmare almost immediately.

Toddler bathing may seem tough sometimes, but it doesn’t have to be impossible. Keep safety in mind and come up with ways to make the experience fun for your little one.
