Cool Items for Your Baby

Having a baby is one of the coolest adventures. Sure, it is a lot work, but there are also those amazing feelings of love and wonder. Now that you have this little one in your arms, you are probably excited to explore some of the wonderful gifts you may have received or other treasures you found for this new addition.

There's great stuff out there for babies. Much of this "stuff" can keep them comfortable and content, while also providing support for you.

Here are a few of the "good things" for baby:

The Boppy® Pillow:

Who would have thought that the shape of a pillow could make that much difference? This pillow, shaped like the letter "C," fits nicely around your middle as you relax in a chair. Baby lays gently on top and ta-da – you have an optimal position for nursing or bottle-feeding. I must admit, as a freelance writer, this provided many hours of snuggling, nursing, and writing during my infant's early days. As your baby grows, this gem can also provide support for those first days when baby is gaining upper body strength and beginning to sit independently.

Carrier:

No matter which one you choose (my favorite was the BabyBjorn Carrier), a good carrier is an amazing thing (good meaning pay the extra monies for a carrier that will give your back some support). The week when you bring home your baby, you may find that you have plenty of hands-on help. Then, your partner returns to work, and you are there with this little newborn. It's wonderful. You don't mind holding this baby and watching their every breath, but then you realize you really would like to eat a bowl of cereal or simply do a couple of chores (not too many!) in the kitchen. The carrier makes it all possible! As your baby grows, many carriers grow with your child. Some allow your baby to snuggle against your chest, and then be turned around to watch the wonders of the world. Some allow you to place your baby on your hip or even on your back. Investigate your options. You will be glad you did.

Blanket Sleepers:

You may be a sensational "swaddler." I wasn't. If you don't quite have the knack for swaddling, consider the terrific invention of a blanket sleeper. This item allows your baby to be dressed in their regular sleeper, etc., then zipped into a comfy, cozy, and warm blanket, which keeps them "snug as a bug."
