What's In A Name?

by Jeannie Fleming-Gifford

What's in a name? I've always had one of those names I've really disliked. Come on. How did they come up with Barbara Jean (sorry if you are a fan, or you or a family member share the name)? They never even used the Barbara part. It's always been "Jeannie." When people call upon "Barbara," I often don't answer and when I do, I probably sound annoyed at the sheer fact that obviously they don't know me and my preferences.

This is all very important stuff to consider if you are in the process of selecting a name for your child. Don't take it lightly. Think long term. How will this name look on the office door or sound being announced on a PA system? Where to start? Here's a good place: www.planningfamily.com/baby-names/picking-out-baby-names/.

Recently, this came out: www.ssa.gov/OACT/babynames/. Are you going with the most popular or trying to stay clear of this list  altogether? There's always retro: www.planningfamily.com/babies/baby-names/top-baby-names-of-the-1950s/.

Names and your child's personality. Do or will they go together? Does a name influence who a person is or who they will become? Maybe not directly, but I believe there is a link. A name says a lot about a person.

What do you hope your baby's name will say about them?

Monday, December 05, 2011 - Levi

I think its very cute and simple plus easy to say

Sunday, November 06, 2011 - Irona

I have a unique name which I hate! IRONA When I say my name, most people say "WHAT?", with a puzzled look on their faces. Ugh. If I drop the "I" and say "Rona", everyone's ok with it. LOL I know no one that wants to name their daughter that! I have no idea what it means but my mother had a cousin from Spain named that and she loved it, so I'm stuck with it. I try to get everyone to call me Rona, which I prefer. So many people hate their names because it is so common, but at least they don't get weird faces from others when they say it. LOL Be thankful. At least your name can be remembered easily, unlike mine.

Sunday, October 30, 2011 - Isaiah

Sunday, September 18, 2011 - kristi

Sunday, September 18, 2011 - lily lynn

different but simple... very cute right

Saturday, September 17, 2011 - Nicol LeAnn

My name is pretty common, but trying to get people to spell it without the 'e' at the end is exhausting. The middle name is a combination since my father is Kevin Lee and mom is Dorothy Ann,so I have Lee and Ann squished together.

Monday, September 12, 2011 - nevaeh

need to know the meaning of nevaeh

Thursday, August 04, 2011 - Destini Renee

I never really known the reason why I was named this name. My 2 sisters r named after a family member but I was never. At first u never heard my name, which I never did where I'm from. My mother just said it came to her while she was still in the hospital. But who really knows. I do love my name it's a beautiful name and no noone never used u r my destiny. I think is so corny.. But really what is in my name?

Sunday, July 31, 2011 - jennifer

what does this name mean?

Wednesday, June 29, 2011 - Brooklyn Jade

My husband and I had a few names picked out but just couldn't settle until we saw our baby girl. When she arrived we both looked at eachother and new she was our beautiful Brooklyn Jade. I love the name, it just flows. We are NOT from Brooklyn, Colorado actually but we still loved the name!

Thursday, June 23, 2011 - Eden

I love my name. There were times that I hated it.

I named my first son after my father and grandfather's middle names, McKinley. His first middle name is Edward, which is my husband and father's middle names, my husband's grandfather's and uncle's name, and my uncle's name (pretty popular). Both of my boys have a second middle name which is my last name (I did not take my husband's last name when we got married) and decided to not hyphenate their last name. My second son is Elliot (my husband swears it's because I watched a lot of Law and Order SVU and like Christopher Meloni) But I liked the name. His middle name, Sean, is after a friend of ours that passed away a few years ago. I have a girls name picked out should we have a girl that i have loved since I was 14 years old. And still love it. I believe that means it has staying power.

I think if you love a name, try yelling the full name up the stairs to see how it sounds. (Like you're yelling for the child). I've had a few names drop off the list because of that test.

And my sister's name is Barbara Jean.

Wednesday, April 06, 2011 - bah!

name shmame

Tuesday, March 22, 2011 - Heather Marie

I have always hated my name, it was a very common name when i was in high school. So when my husband and i had our son just over 7 years ago we wanted something different. We named our little guy Dakotah Michael (dakotah after my heritage) and Michael after my husbands father. Flash forward 7 years my son loves his name we call him Cody for short but all of his friends & his teacher call him Dakotah because that is what he likes. We also have a 9 month old and i fell in love with the name Landon Dean (dean being after my father) and landon was a name in a movie i saw. Well i thought we were being creative only to have the nurses at the hospital tell us that in the last 3 weeks before our 2nd little boy was born they had 6 other landons born there.

I say if the name makes you smile everytime you say it then that is what you should go with.

Thursday, March 17, 2011 - Gwendolyn Leigh

I hated my name growing up, because people either couldn't spell it or thought it was weird, but I have grown to love it. I tried to give my children names that weren't terribly common, but it seems that many of them are becoming popular now. My oldest son is Grayson Robert (Robert after my grandfather and stepfather), my daughter is Ava Leigh (she and I share a middle name), the youngest right now is Cameron Lucas (after my husband's grandmother, Carmen), and the fourth, due in July, is going to be Darrian Samuel (Darrian after my uncle who passed away in 2001).

Wednesday, March 02, 2011 - Beth Amber

My name is pretty uncommon I think. It suits me. everyone says I look like a Beth. I went with Amber for a while and hayed it when I would still get called Beth. I just had my first child. A little girl. It took me and her dad almost my whole pregnancy to agree on a name. I finally just asked the lord to send me my baby's name.I grabbed a piece of paper and wrote Natalie Grace. It just felt perfect. My mom always asked me to name my first girl Gracie so it made her happy. And my baby smiles every time I say her name. So I say if you want the perfect name, Leave it to the Lord!

Thursday, February 24, 2011 - elizabeth lavaeh believe warlick

elizabeth after our grandmothers lavaeh because we both liked it believe because of my b/f uncle had a illness and they always believe he would get through it

Friday, February 18, 2011 - names

I hated my name as a kid, and funny thing is it wasn't popular at the time. they called me Hannah Banana and Hannah Barbara. ugh! I go by my middle name kristine. in anycase, when i had my son my ex and I fought over middle names, finally when i had him i gave him both. which drove everyone nuts. Bryce Melvin Russell. Bryce means Celtic Warrior melvin was his greatgrandfather and russell was my brother that had passed. I'm glad to give him those 2 family names and he's 14 now and proud of all 3.

this new baby due july 2011, i needed a little inspiration. we're looking at unusual names from characters in a starwars book for a boy like Kitarin, but if its a girl her name will start Aria Sakura. she'll have another middle name like her brother. Aria means melody, and I'm an aspiring opera singer, so its a very personal name, and Sakura means cherry blossom but for dad its also a starwars character. I think overall names should reflect something or someone important to you for someone who will be most important.

Wednesday, February 02, 2011

i had a little girl i named her lilith weslea rose early my daughter has 2 middle names

Tuesday, January 25, 2011 - kimshhawnee

my husband and i are expecting our first child late june. we have already came up with the name. edison: meaning son of edward (my husband) or kimorie (no meaning) we just wanted our child to have the beginning part of our name. we have decided that he or she will have a khmer middle name which has with a nice meaning. arun: morning sun, sun rise (pronounce like aaron in english) or karlyan: the best, charming (pronounce kar/li/yawn in khmer and english kar/li/ann

Tuesday, January 25, 2011 - Brittany

my name is very common and plain...Brittany Anne-Louise...ive always liked the concept of the two middle names so when i got pregnant with my now 2 yr old...i wanted her name to have meaning..so i decided upon Lily Ann-Nicole...lily is a hebrew word that means suzanne..my mothers name is suzanne nicole...so essentially my first child is named after me and my mother...when i got pregnant with my almost 2 yr old Jasmine Lynn-Michelle..her fathers name is Jasmone and my sisters names are Barbara Lynn-Nicole and Shannon Michelle..essentially my youngest is named after her dad and my two oldest sisters..and her and her sister both have very pretty flower names...i think they are unique and very thought out...i love my kids names and so does everybody else:D

Thursday, January 13, 2011 - Terri Lynn

Never knew the meaning of my name, but was always interested in unique names and spellings. Have a daughter named Haleigh (pronounced Hayley) love the spelling and the name, simple ,but not too common.

Tuesday, January 11, 2011 - Brylinn and Kinslee

My second daughter is a name my husband and I created. It is Brylinn and she loves her name. She is now 7 and always says she loves having a name that noone else has. Our 3rd baby girl born due in 4 weeks will also be an uncommon name Kinslee. I hope she feels the same way. Our oldest daughter has a very common name and she would rather have a name like her sister.

Sunday, January 09, 2011 - Morgan E.

I have a little boy And when I found out I was preg my husband and I didn't have alot of time to decide cuz u was already 6 months along so we agreed on Skylar Parker we just really liked it but now we are thinking of having another and if it's a boy it's Braxton Ryder(BRE) and a girl we can't agree on Arizona Marie (AME), Arizona Audree(AAE), or last but not least Arizona Aubree (AAE)...

Tuesday, December 14, 2010 - lauren

My name wasnt that common when i was growing up and i liked it just fine. Ive always been one that liked different names. So I named my son Avery Robert. Avery is different and Robert is after my husband's two grandfathers.

Monday, December 13, 2010 - amber lynn

my name is a name that i have heard many times. my dad jokes that it was pulled out of a hat because my mom wouldn't let him name me what he wanted to (paricia rose), and she wasn't sure what she wanted to name me. so when i became pregnant, my boyfriend and i agreed that if the baby was a girl he could handle the naming (i agreed to this because i already knew and liked what he had chosen) and i could name it if it was a boy. after finding out we had a beautiful baby boy on the way, i decided on naming him Daniel Edward The third. Dj's family (all except him and his dad, the first Daniel.) hated the idea of naming him the third. they talked about it all the time and made it sound as if i was naming him after satan. but we stuck to it, and today daniel is a happy baby boy, and i can't think of any other name that would fit him better. The moral of the story; if the name feels right to you then don't let anyone sway you from it.

Saturday, December 11, 2010 - Annjanette

I love my unusual name it made me feel very special growing up and still to this day. My parents say they derived my name from my mom's favorite aunt, Aunt Jan. When my daughter was born we couldn't decide what to name her - I really wanted something slightly unusual. We decided upon Lilibeth because my favorite flower is a Lily and my great grandma's name was Elizabeth.

Friday, December 03, 2010 - DeAnna

I always hated my name growing up and wanted a name like everyone else's, but now that I am an adult I realize how cruddy it would have been if I had been the fourth Jessica or Stephanie in my class. My boys have common names, Christopher and Johnathan, daughter Alana is pretty uncommon in my region. Having trouble coming up with a name for #4, who is a boy.

Friday, December 03, 2010 - Sarah Elizabeth

I have the most common and boring name in the world and have always hated it, so when I had my kids, I decided to choose less popular names. My first son is Calvin Michael Julyan (Michael after my exhusband and Julyan after my dad), he has yet to run into another Calvin, second son, Jamison (Jamie or Jamis for short) kinda ran into trouble with this one as Jameson is a Whiskey (we aren't drinkers, but for some reason, people seem to think that we would name our kid after an alcoholic drink, but my mothers father was James and he passed away when she was young). Our third and last son coming Christmas Eve will be Eamon (pronounced A-men with a strong A), we went Irish on this name as our kids are very Irish looking and its a nice strong mans name. And I have never run into another Eamon. No more generic, boring English names for me. But sadly, I will always be stuck with this boring, tragic name. Lengthened to Sarah-Beth in school due to the mass over use of the name Sarah, tragic.

Wednesday, December 01, 2010 - Candie

My given name is Candace, but I was never called it unless I was in trouble. I wanted my daughter's name to be more simple so we went with Erica Jean. Simple and not very popular, but very popular with us.

Tuesday, November 16, 2010 - Clarissa

my name is Clarissa and though ppl have a hard time getting it right at first when they do pronounce it correctly they like it and it fits me perfectly. i am expecting a boy in january and ive fallen in love with his name "Haven Blaine" haven means safe place and blaine means from fire...safe place from fire

Monday, November 08, 2010 - Tara (named after a day time soap-character

Baby names are important. I like when children are named after a special-to-you relative.

my son is a junior (of course)

my first daughter Ava Catherine after my mother in law. and my final addition coming soon will be named after my mom and dad...Micayla Elizabeth. If you didn't know Micayla is the feminine verse of Michael.

Wednesday, November 03, 2010 - Brenda

I am 5wks pregnant and My hubby and I have had our names picked before we even conceived...Girl: Cheyann Leigh, My Mother, Mother-in-Law and husband names all start with Ch, My middle name is Ann, and My Father's name is Lee so that's how that one came about. Boy: Chase Lee, got the Ch and Lee thing going still. I LOVE our names.

Saturday, October 30, 2010 - Wendi

I didn't like my name growing up because its hard to put a nick name to it. I started liking it more a few years ago after finding out its meanig and thing that you don't hear about a "wendi" everyday. It means friendly which i am so my dad chose the right name that suits me.I always liked traditional names yet unique so I knew I would name my daughter maybe someone i didn't know that had the name.husband and I liked the name Elizabeth but our last named starts with a "W" so we all knew she would get teased. So the second we heard the name "Katelyn we knew the named was perfect. We spelled it "katelyn "so she can go as "kate" My husband thought it would be weird if it was spelled Caitlyn and go by "cait". I liked the "C" but I am liking the " k"more now. : ) My husband talked me into having her names with "k" instead of c".He thought it was more unique. Now I see how other people spell it and I agree. My husbands name is Josh. It is pretty traditional but I think it suits him and because what it means. It means noble and honest. My sisters name is Heather. You dont hear about too amny "heathers". i like our names because you don't hear them all the time. Oh and in elementary school my math teacher would call me wend "i" to remember its spelled with and "i"

Monday, October 25, 2010 - Jesenia

I didn't really like my name growing up, cause it was so comment, I knew about 5 girl with my name growing up. They where spelt differently though usually with a y. then I found out lost of people really have never heard my name before so it not as common as I thought. My husband has an unusual name as will, it Trampus. I wanted my son to have an unusual name as well I named his Celestino.

Saturday, October 23, 2010 - CHARISSA

GREEK-Means Love, Honesty,Caring...All the Good things. I used to dread this as EVERYONE got it wrong..including teachers! They came out with cLarissa-CHA-rissa like the cha chas, and it's actually like a soft c-in charisma

well, thge best part about this, is that I am Exactly like my name, and it all will be like that. if you name some one with a EE sound at the end of their name, they're usually goofy-hapy go lucky, where as the more in depth names make a more in depth person. This is True, I've studied this over the years. so don't be disheartened with your names guy and gals you are what you are called, just remember don''t be naming your kid "Blanket"

Tuesday, October 05, 2010 - Jennifer

Now how's that for a common name... It was #1 for 14 straight years, from 1970 to 1984. I wanted my kids to have names that were unique but not unusual. We compromised on Arianna Lynn for our 1st because my hubby liked Vivianna but our last name starts with a V and I thought it was a bit much. There are a few other Arianna's in her school but she goes to a k-12, and they are much older or spelled differently. For our 2nd we went with Genevieve Elizabeth because my hubby heard Genevieve on tv and fell in love, and I loved that it was classic yet uncommon. Our son is the only one we didn't really agree on... He wanted a Junior, I wanted to go with Sebastian, He eventually wore me down and our son is now Mark Anthony, Jr. Our last we let his mom choose her name because she only had boys and we already had 2 girls... Her name is Martha Lucia. I love it, we call her Luci for now until she is old enough to decide for herself what name she wants to use. My mom can't stand the name Martha but I just told her to call her Luci like everyone else, or to come up with her own special nickname if she wants but that is her name and she better get used to it.

Also I found out after the fact that Genevieve, Elizabeth, and Martha were all names of my Paternal Grandfather's family. His mother was Martha Elizabeth and he had a cousin Genevieve.

Tuesday, October 05, 2010 - debra

hated it groing up still do. Had three daughters went with Jessica Rose, Samantha Rose and Autumn Rose. Rose is my mothers name. Recently became a grandmother her name Is Lily Rose.

Tuesday, October 05, 2010 - taidun jerome

this is the name of my first son.

Monday, October 04, 2010 - Donnette

I couldn't stand my name as a child - always being pronounced wrong, spelled wrong... and there's no good nickname for it. I got stuck with Donut, because of those little bags of Doughnuts that are spelled ALMOST the same as my name. Blah. It's grown on me since, but I always vowed to give my children unique yet simple names. I have 3 kids. My daughters names are Faith Natasha and Paige Marie. My son's name is Dalton Levi. Unique, but simple! Love it! And there are normal nicknames that can come from these!

Saturday, October 02, 2010 - Kendra

I have always liked my name. I have met other people with the same name, but not hundreds! My first daughter's name is Aubriana Joyce. We don't shorten it to Aubri, though some of her friends do. I don't know many other Aubriana's. Her middle name is the same as my Grammie's. My second daughters name will be Baylynn Gayle. We were going to name her Baylee Lynn (Lynn after my MIL) But we meshed the two together and got Baylynn, we love it and have never heard it. Gayle is after my mother. Her middle name is Gay...but that means something totally different now than it did in the 50's. So we added the L-E.

Saturday, October 02, 2010 - Kayla

I'm naming my daughter Nevaeh Alese Naomi. I love the unique names as well.

Saturday, October 02, 2010 - Branden

Does this name have a meaning?

Saturday, October 02, 2010 - Mark

What does the name Mark mean?

Saturday, October 02, 2010 - rosetta

what is in my name

Friday, October 01, 2010 - Tiffany

I always hated the fact that there were about 10 other Tiffanys in my class. I picked Andy and Liam for my sons, and Amelia for my daughter because they were traditional yet not overused at the time of their births.

Friday, October 01, 2010 - Lexi

My mom was watching the movie "Ice Castles" when she chose my name, but didn't think it was an appropriate full name. So technically I am Alexandria Rose. DH and I wanted something different for our son but could not agree on anything for the longest time. We finally settled on Torsten Thomas. Torsten in a slight homage to our scandinavian heritage but mostly because it's a strong uncommon name. My mom HATES it, and has spent the first year of his life trying to come up with nicknames so she doesn't have to use it but I don't care, we love it and it suits him. Thomas is after my brother. If we have a daughter she will be Ella Rose, Autumn Rose, Ella Jenae

Friday, October 01, 2010 - Crystal

i am 15 weeks pregnant and me and my husband have been saying that if we have a girl it's goin to be Samantha Rose and then today he asks me what i think about Krystal Rose and says he wants my name in it somehow... i know i have a long way to go before we have the baby.. i wonder what it will change to next lol

Friday, October 01, 2010 - Cindie

My husband and I wanted a unique name for our baby, but we also wanted to honor either my husband's grandfather, Dean (if we had a boy), my grandfather, John (again, if we had a boy), or my husband's great-grandma, Lizzie Mae (if we had a girl). Well, we ended up having a girl and we chose Mae as her middle name. Since we had such a simple middle name, we wanted the first name to be something that could define her as unique, because that's what she is. We settled on Allora and we couldn't be happier since we haven't come across 10 million Alloras yet.

Friday, October 01, 2010 - Haven

What does this name mean?

Friday, October 01, 2010 - Heather

I always been interested in names and their meanings. When I was a teenager I thought that when I had a child I would name them something unique. But now I've had to compromise with my fiance who likes traditional names. We finally settled on Micah. It works for a boy or girl.

Friday, October 01, 2010 - Nagib Maku

We named our son, after my late beloved father Nagib Abo and Maku is from his side mean Formaus .

Friday, October 01, 2010 - sara

I wanted my kids 2 have weird names because mines so simple my oldest son is ashe,my lil girl aurora and my baby boy xander not off the wall but diff enuff that 5 ppl won't answer when a teacher calls their name

Thursday, September 30, 2010 - Trisha

I have two children, Jonah and Merijane. I think it's important to have different yet traditional names. My kids are Jonah and Merijane.

Thursday, September 30, 2010

I feel that names are so important. All of my children are named after important loved people from our families, yet are unique.I have not met 1 person with any of my childrens' names. They all have 2 middle names. My oldest is Celestine Eileen Grace, my middle child is, Markiya Michael Martina, and my son is, Dannic Andre Ronnie. Everytime hear there names I remember all the special people in out lives!

Thursday, September 30, 2010 - Amanda

It sounds like I am one of the few who value a traditional name. My children, Charlie and Natalie, have traditional, yet fairly uncommon names. It seems like recently the more people try to choose uncommon names for their children, the more common they become (Ava, Tallory, Reese, etc). My husband and I couldn't agree on a name for our daughter so we asked our son what he would name her...and it was the only name we both could agree upon and loved! If I have another girl I would like to name her Phoebe after a family name in my paternal grandmother's family.

Thursday, September 30, 2010 - Jamie Lu

The only thing I remember my parents saying about my name is that they were reading a book. Have no idea which one. My husband wanted to name our daughter that - no way. That was a tough name to grow up with.

Thursday, September 30, 2010 - Melinda

I believe the name needs to be special to the parent or parents my father named me and gave me and my brother very unique middle names that no one else has (Chantilly) and (Shilo). I named my daughter Imogen Elizabeth (Elizabeth after my grandmother) Imogen means innocent and she is. But unfortuanlly you cant win no matter what you do everyone mispronouces her name I dont understand how but it seems that the hooked on phonics seems to have something to do with it. But I think if you take into consideration everything out there you will never name your child you need to do what is right for you and raise your child to own thier name and to be proud of it.

Thursday, September 30, 2010 - danielle

i always hated my name cause there is names that i was called when i was in school and i told my family that if i ever had a child i would make sure no one can make fun of the name and years later i had my son lil over 8 months ago and he was named after his grandfathers names

Thursday, September 30, 2010 - Pamela

I never used to like my name growing up, however I have come to appreciate it. I always liked the more unique names, and my husband likes the more traditional. We have two girls Lilly Ceana, and Reagan Grace. If we have boys their names will be Ryder James, and Liam Eugene. One thing w/ the girl we did was try not to make them have bad initials, even if they get married and take their husbands name. I hate initialing paper now, since I got married they our P.M.S

Thursday, September 30, 2010 - Lynne

Because my mom added an "e" to my name (she thought Lynn looked incomplete), I've become addicted to unique names or unique spellings of common names. I always knew my first son would be Caleb and alwys thought my first daughter would be Riann Gael. But during my pregnancy last year the memory of a friend's grandmother visited me often and Annabelle became a strong contender. Riann was soon pushed out of the running and my first daughter will be Annabelle Rose. My son's father wanted to name him Enzo Ferrari!! I'll leave the super exotic names for my science fiction characters.

Tuesday, July 06, 2010

I have a unique first name(Santana) and haven't ever met anyone with the same first name as me, I always felt special. I wanted to give my children the same feeling. So I gave them uncommon but not way out there names. Kellynn, Maleah, Gauge, and Josie. All nice names I thought, we call the oldest 2 Kelly and Mia. Their names are all uncommon but not so far out there that someone couldn't pronounce them. I think people should go with whats in their hearts, what they like and what makes them happy when they choose their childs name. Don't mind what other people think, its what you think that matters!

Saturday, July 03, 2010 - Guinevere

And yes that is my real name.My fiance and I are getting into arguments about our childs name(well the boys name) we actually agree on a girls name. Lily Jade. But he is half Italian and wants an Italian boys name Nico,Gino,Benicio. Theres no way thats going to happen. The only name we kind of agree on is Marshall.

Friday, July 02, 2010 - Jan

i have always hated my name, i was named after my grandmother, Janice, but everyone calls me Jan, and the first thing i always hear after that is "Marsha, Marsha, Marsha". We are going with Damian for our son's name, and the entire family is now saying "the Omen". sometimes you just can't win, but I love the name and we are sticking to it.

Friday, July 02, 2010 - Jessica

I always said that I would have a unique name because Jessica is so not-unique. But I ended up with names that are on the top 10!! It was very important for us to have a grandparents name as their middle name. I'm very happy with my children's names. Ava Katarina & Jack Baird

Saturday, June 26, 2010 - Tasha

I have puzzled over what I should call my child for the fact of getting teased and being uniquie and having a special meaning to it...well Ive come up with Gracie and her middle name is after my grandmother...im pertty happy about it cause my parents named me tasha to try to be unique and middle after uncle but the name tasha most people always pronounce wrong or spell wrong it kinda irritating but im pertty sure gracie is easy to spell...im excited hope she likes it too

Thursday, June 24, 2010 - Tasha PB

I think the name is important...alot of people have had issues with naming my first son Jimmie Max..I've always like simple names, why people find this name so funny it's after his father!!!

Tuesday, June 22, 2010 - ricky lake!!!

I have been teesed and called ricky lake, ricky martin,ricky-retard-o and many many more!!! so i hope i made good choices one zoe and labhras!!!!!! my girl and boy!!!!! by RIKKI just RIKKI

Wednesday, June 16, 2010

The thing is that what is in a name is what we the parents make it to be.Picking a name that everyone else has to one parent is the same to another who picks one thats completly differnt then any you have ever heard, its what they like. We all do it for different reasons but just realize, your parents liked that name for you for a reason. It's your choice whether to embrace it or not.I have not always been a fan of my name(Kendall) but it comes from my grandfather kenneth and to me that makes all the difference in the world. To some one with no religious beliefs a name can be a unique way they want their child to be seen as. Me, I chose to give my kids names that all start with the same letter("x" xander and xavien).Don't know why just somehting i always wanted to do, i think its neat they will have most the same initials.

I agree with you on baby names. I tjink its worse with the celebrities. I think a name affects a child laterin life. I like to choose name tha have meaning not just a name that sound cute. i have a friend who turned 'heaven' backwards and named her daughter 'neveah'. What is the meaning of that?
