Oatmeal is more than a meal. Many people think of oatmeal as a cold weather breakfast, but this ancient food is perfect for snacks and as an anytime food to help keep your energy level up before, during and after pregnancy!
Control Your Cholesterol: The soluble fiber found in oatmeal has been found to reduce LDL (the bad stuff) without lowering HDL (the good stuff) cholesterol.
Micro and Macro Nutrients: How about some selenium, magnesium, iron, vitamin E, zinc and manganese? Macro… a decent source of protein!
Cardiovascular Disease: Studies prove that folks who eat more oatmeal are less likely to develop heart disease, a leading killer in the United States.
Kicking Cancer’s Butt: Oatmeal contains high amounts of insoluble fiber, which it turns out contains cancer fighting properties that wreak havoc on certain bile acids, reducing their toxicity.
Alternative Energy: According to multiple studies, oatmeal helps you maintain a steady level of energy throughout the day. Again, it’s the super-soluble fiber, which helps slow the release of sugar into the bloodstream, helping you avoid those nasty sugar spikes… and the sleepy feeling you feel after eating carbs.
The Skinny: When shopping for oatmeal, look for brands that are low in sugar, since the added sweet stuff in instant oatmeal defeats the purpose of maintaining low blood sugar.

I like oatmeal, always have but i've never heard (until reading this article today) that eating it increases your breastmilk supply. Makes good sense though.
I don't just eat oatmeal for breakfast though, I also make granola, muffins, quick & yeast breads, and cookies with it plus I add it to meatloaf (instead of using bread crumbs). Sometimes i use molasses instead of other types of sweetners though it's not as sweet as others but it does add moistness in baked goods. :)

We eat steel-cut oats several times per week. My 23-month old son absolutely loves it. I switched from the pre-packaged oatmeal because I didn't like feeding him so much sugar. Some days we eat it sprinkled with cinnamon and an equal or splenda. Other days I chop up dried cranberries. He loves it both ways... I prefer the cinnamon.

Oatmeal + bananas =Oatmeal + bananas = MMMMM! No sugar required with this combo. Cooking the bananas with the oatmeal releases all of the bananas' delicious natural sugar. The riper the banana, the better. My hubby does add a bit of brown sugar to his, but my kiddos (9mo and 2-1/2yrs) and I love it with a dash of cinnamon.

oh wow, so its normal to have an affair with oatmeal when you're breastfeeding? haha and I think it helps with supply, too... I've eaten probably a bowl a day for a year and never had problems breastfeeding. I just get the Nature's Path organic flax plus kind and make it with milk... delicious!!

I have to eat gluten free, not sure if it makes a difference or not. I cook with 1 tsp butter + 1 tsp brown sugar, and add half a banana and an entire apple chopped up. It's super filling, only 5 points on weightwatchers.com and super tasty

Eating oatmeal with cheese is fine when pregnant. Not only is it high in fiber you are also getting a little extra calcium with the cheese. I just had my daughter 3 1/2 months ago and when I was pregnant I ate it every day. My doctor thought it sounded gross but oked it for me to eat. I like you was all about salty/sweet so I loved it!!! Bon Appetite!!!

For those that like Brown Sugar on their oatmeal. Try honey on oatmeal instead of brown sugar or sugar. You still get the sweetness without a lot of sugar being added. This with milk and butter makes oatmeal all the more delicious

I heard oatmeal helps to increase breast milk supply. I know, it sounds crazy, but the days I do have it for breakfast, I seem to be fuller! I was convinced.

Yay for oatmeal - it packs an even better nutritional punch when you sprinkle wheat germ and ground flax seed on top. Add fruit and nuts for true heaven at breakfast! (of course a pat of butter and a little brown sugar never hurt anyone either)

I need to eat more oatmeal! You should post some healthy oatmeal recipes. I found a banana bread oatmeal, its delicious if you like banana bread. Just add mashed banana's cinnamon and nutmeg.

I was never a big breakfast eater, until I had my first daughter. I have to agree, that eating oatmeal does increase your milk supply. I have two daughters and I noticed a big difference when eating oatmeal. My girls both like Oatmeal too.
