Your Baby Week 11
By 11 weeks, your baby may be able to turn his head to look at you when he hears your voice. He may also be able to keep his head steady and in line with the rest of his body when he is pulled up to a supported seated position.
Cow’s Milk
Though breastfeeding might be tiresome and formula may be burning a hole in your pocket, don’t be tempted to switch to cow’s milk just yet. In fact, infants should not drink cow’s milk before they are a year old. One reason to wait is that cow’s milk does not have any iron in it, unlike breast milk or iron fortified infant formula. Therefore, switching your infant to cow’s milk this early may lead to the development of iron deficiency anemia.
Another reason is that infants simply have trouble digesting large amounts of cow’s milk. Remember that cow’s milk is designed for baby cows, not baby humans. Some dairy products, like yogurts and cheeses, are well tolerated by infants and may be introduced after they begin solid foods, with approval from their pediatrician.
Activity Quilts
Do you have an activity quilt for your infant yet? Activity quilts are full of visual appeal and may be the first place that your child tries to crawl. Right now, they will just enjoy lying down on this soft quilt, kicking their legs and moving their arms, batting or reaching for the toys above them. These quilts are great for exercising motor skills and for stimulating their senses.
If you have had an activity quilt for quite some time, for a special challenge, switch the position of the activity toys. If you watch closely, you might be able to see your baby notice these changes and try to figure out what is different!
