Advanced Exercise Ideas for Moms
Author: Angela Heidt
Now that you are starting to get your body back, you may want to add a degree of difficulty to your workout to make it more of a challenge. This is an excellent idea, not only because you are trying to improve yourself, but because you have made the important decision to take care of yourself in addition to your baby.
Luckily, most cities have a host of great places where you can find advanced exercise training. If you really want some personalization to your workout, you may want to consider hiring a personal trainer. They will work to get you where you want to be and will give you the encouragement you need if you start to doubt yourself.
As for what exercise to choose, it depends entirely on what you are comfortable with and what you are used to. For example, you probably would not want to switch from swimming laps to marathon training since these target completely different areas, but if you were already a jogger, marathon training may be a natural progression.
Here are some ideas for advanced exercise training:
- Boot camp
- Training for a marathon or half-marathon
- Kickboxing
- Power Yoga
- Spinning (exercise bike routine)
- Advanced aerobics or step class
- Weight training
- Martial Arts (Karate, Ju-Jitsu, etc)
Before you commit to a program, see if you can join one class to get the feel of it. It may turn out that the class is not what you thought, and you will at least have saved yourself some time and money. Another good idea is to get another mom or friend to join you so you can both encourage each other through the process and make sure the other person doesn’t drop out.
No matter what you choose, if you are in the early stages of post-pregnancy or have a medical condition, you should consult your doctor to make sure the exercise program you choose is right for you. Congratulate yourself on having chosen to continue to take care of yourself because this is one area that most new moms neglect. No get out there and get fit!
